Abstract Gray and White Painting - Interferance

Interferance
24x36 inches, acrylic on canvas

This abstract gray and white painting was a custom order by a family member, so is of course not for sale.  But I was quite pleased with the outcome and wanted to show what is possible to achieve in terms of interest and suggestability using only a limited palette.

The original piece was only 12x16 inches and I wasn't sure if it would sucessfully translate into a larger piece.  But now that I've done it, I am eager to explore this possibility more.  Making it larger only meant more room to play and to create something with a multitude of subtle diversities.

The original piece is still for sale in my shop.  For details

Abstract Plains Painting - The Great Plains

The Great Plains
18x36 inches, acrylic on canvas

This abstract great plains painting has some of the colours I absolutely love the most, rusty reds and oranges with rich, dark untertones.  Painting is such a joy to me and mostly because I get to play with colour.  Then there is the mystery of composition which sometimes just develops along the way.

The colour combination in this one shows a field deep into autumn, on an overcast day, with only a weak sun coming through the wall of cloud, but yet, there is something more.  Something looms on the horizon, just left of centre.  What is it?  This is the mystery of composition.

Abstract Prairie Painting in Green - Summer Field

Summer Field
12x16 inches, acrylic on canvas

I just love the colour of this abstract prairie painting.  It is actually many, many layers of green, each one a little lighter than the layer before it.  Each time I painted it I like it more and more, until it was just the perfect shade of green.

Fields remind me so much of home, of perfect summer days, and warm summer evenings, with their mysteries of insects and wild flowers.
